BUFFALO BABIES AT THE L BAR T

May 23rd, 2010

Tatonka’s son Tommy writes on the L Bar T’s Facebook page that it’s wonderful living just a few feet from a Bison pasture, and having stood at the fence these last couple of weeks we agree. It’s got to be awesome.

Babies at LBarT

While Nancy and I were entertaining ourselves by watching the TNT made for TV series “Into the West,” Tommy’s bison buddies were making miniatures of themselves just a few feet from our fast draw range! Thought you’d want to know…

Outrider Lefty May 2010
Outrider (2nd) and Bad Eye Lefty (1st) standing a little too close to the buffalo at our May 2010 match at the L Bar T Bison Ranch

With only five shooters this month, we ran two lanes so as to practice hand judging for the upcoming matches in The Dalles and Canyon City, Oregon.  Both shooters were using the heavier, “old model” Ruger Vaqueros.

1.   Bad Eye Lefty .452

2.   Outrider .502

3.   Coho Kid .587

4.   Orygun Outlaw .515

5.   The Rev. W. W. Ronin .498

APRIL 17, 2010 at the L Bar T Bison Ranch in Forest Grove, OR

We had ten shooters!  And we had a special guest, CD Tom who brought the new CFDA scoring software and helped to score the match.  The creator of the computer program used by the Single Action Shooting Society to score their largest matches, Tom has contributed a great product for CFDA clubs to use.  Not only will we be using the software to score the Oregon “End of Trail” State Match in August, but as we get larger we’ll need to use it on a monthly basis.  Place and fastest scores follow; the match was shot in the “no X out” timed format.

1.   Gentleman Jim .402

2.   Oregon Ranger (guest) .961

3.   Orygun Outlaw .539

4.   Kid Creggar .390

5.   Bad Eye Lefty .502

6.   Coho Kid .562

7.   Oregon Cowboy (guest) .425

8.   Outrider .602

9.   The Rev. W. W. Ronin .561

10.  George Uh .579

MARCH 20, 2010 at the L Bar T Bison Ranch, Forest Grove, OR

A blustery day at the range at Tom and Lori’s place.    But a good time was had by all, particularly by Kid Creggar and our club’s 2010 Shootist Award winner, Bad Eye Lefty, who duked it out for first and second place, despite the strong challenge brought by Gentleman Jim.

1.   Kid Creggar .369

2.   Bad Eye Lefty .453

3.   Gentleman Jim .397

4.   Outrider .540

5.   Oregon Ranger (guest) .688

6.   Oregon Outlaw .523

7.   The Rev. W. W. Ronin .503

FEBRUARY 10, 2010 at the L Bar T Bison Ranch, Forest Grove OR

As this was Gentleman Jim’s first match as member and he brought the whole fam damily with him to shoot, we thought we’d shoot an extra one X match.  Imagine our surprise when the match placement turned out exactly the same.  We shot a two-hour timed match for the main match and a standard 1X elimination match for the the second.

1.   Gentleman Jim .393

2.   Oregon Cowboy (guest) .408

3.   Kid Creggar .373

4.   Bad Eye Lefty .439

5.   Oregon Outlaw .493

6.   Oregon Ranger (guest) .514

An extra 1X match gave the following interesting results:

1.   Gentleman Jim .391

2.   Oregon Cowboy (guest) .403

3.   Kid Creggar .387

4.   Bad Eye Lefty .495

5.   Oregon Outlaw .500

6.   Oregon Ranger (guest)

JANUARY 16, 2010 at the L Bar T Bison Ranch, Forest Grove, OR

Scores yet to be posted for this two-hour timed match, save the placement of the first two shooters.  Great to see Cooter there, who braved wintery roads and weather from Sweet Water, Oregon, and to have the Reverend W. W. Ronin’s participation as well, after his move to St. Helens, Oregon.

1.   Kid Creggar .357

2.   Bad Eye Lefty .405

3.   Outrider .393

4.   The Rev. W. W. Ronin .485

5.   Coho Kid .515

6.   Cooter .610

CLUB TO RETURN TO CFDA SCORING METHOD

May 9th, 2010

We’ve had a good time the last few months shooting for a determined time–typically two hours, or there abouts–and then adding up the Xs to determine the winner. But while it’s allowed everyone to maximize their match time and thus benefited the lower-placing shooters, its hurt the club’s better shooters and often, because of ties, resulted in prolonged contests at the end of the day to see who scores in the middle of the pack or even last.
