PROPS TO POST THIS SPRING

November 27th, 2008

Fact is, we’ve spent way too much time on this.  Dirtbag’s tools, Orie Gunn, Bad Eye Lefty, the Amity Kid, and Ronin’s time, not to speak of material contributions by Tatonka and others, it’s simply time to get these flats done.

So mid-November, the Amity Kid loaded up the paint and wood into Ronin’s truck and headed to the town called Amity.  (There is one.  If you don’t know, it’s right past McMinnville, about 45 minutes from the range we’re building in Forest Grove.)  And there, in the heated living room of the Amity Kid, the club’s town props are being finished.

new props, prior to their leaving the L Bar T barn in November

We’re not showing the finished project yet, but things are shaping up.  And the Amity Kid tells us that they were finished for our shoot in January.  Given the winter range’s current problems–Tom is working through an arduous and expensive permit process to repair damage caused by the winter snows–we hope to set them up and enjoy them for the first time in April or May.

The Kid sends a picture of a few of the buildings in progress!

We’re right proud of the Kid for taking hold of this project.  And for everyone else that have helped!  Tatonka has picked up a bunch of barrels for us and we hear tell of a saddle or two.  With a little help from an electrician–we’re thinking we could do with a couple of more lights–we’re going to have a great new look to our shooting beginning this spring!

FIRST ANNUAL SHOOTIST AWARD IN DECEMBER

November 15th, 2008

Picture3

We’ve reset the December match for the third Saturday, December 20, after consultation with members of our group.  While the 20th date better fit Ronin and Generous Kate–he’s got a music rehearsal and potentially may be moving that Saturday–fact is, most everyone preferred the third Saturday.

And what a Saturday it will be!  A large or small gathering, one of Oregon’s first Cowboy Fast Draw Club members will receive a December “Top Gun” award.  And someone–at this point only three shooters, Doug Graves, Orie Gunn and Bad Eye Lefty qualify–will take our first annual overall best shooting award, the “Shootist.”

Each of those listed have won two matches thus far.  Short of an upset, they’re best poised to take it.  Doug Graves, who hasn’t been seen in these parts for a while, still holds the club speed record, shooting at .444.  We’ve had a few guests shoot faster, and a couple of members come close, but the consistent shooting of Orie Gunn and Bad Eye Lefty will be hard to beat.
