Tatonka’s son Tommy writes on the L Bar T’s Facebook page that it’s wonderful living just a few feet from a Bison pasture, and having stood at the fence these last couple of weeks we agree. It’s got to be awesome.

While Nancy and I were entertaining ourselves by watching the TNT made for TV series “Into the West,” Tommy’s bison buddies were making miniatures of themselves just a few feet from our fast draw range! Thought you’d want to know…

We’ve had a good time the last few months shooting for a determined time–typically two hours, or there abouts–and then adding up the Xs to determine the winner. But while it’s allowed everyone to maximize their match time and thus benefited the lower-placing shooters, its hurt the club’s better shooters and often, because of ties, resulted in prolonged contests at the end of the day to see who scores in the middle of the pack or even last.

Canyon City, Oregon
Jon “Blackjack” Long tells us that details are firming up for the Oregon State championship, “The Gunfight at Trail’s End.” Co-owner of the Lengendary Idaho Shootists and “ramrod” for the first Oregon State Championship, Blackjack notes that folks in Canyon City are really getting into the CFDA-sanctioned event. “They have confirmed a Friday night music in the park event for us and a Saturday morning pancake feed.” Cowboy Fast Draw Association (CFDA) folks like to eat and eating opportunities don’t appear to be lacking for the August 13-15 event.

If you know Ole’ West, one of the better shooters in our club, you know what a stickler he is for details. A quick study, John’s gone from shooting in the sixes and sevens to scoring regularly in the fours. That’s four-hundreds of a second, quite a feat for any shooter, let alone a new one.
